A traditional Balinese house is consist of 4 main buildings. Building that is located in the north which is called Bale Daja. Building located in the east which is called Bale Dangin. The one in west part of the house is called Bale Dauh and a kitchen which usually located in the south part of the house. Each of this building has different purpose. Basic function is all the same as place for housing. But during traditional or religious activities, each building has its own function.
If you visit Bali during the Galungan day, you will see the colorful street with many decoration on the gate of each house in Bali. The beautiful decoration is called Penjor. Galungan day is ceremony to celebrate the winning of Dharma (good power) against Adharma (evil power). Celebrated for 10 days ended by Kuningan Day. Actually penjor is an offering to God. Penjor is made from bamboo which is beautifully decorated by coconut leaves, flowers, and completed with all kinds of farming items. This offering consist of all result of the peoples farming. Used as a grateful expression for the prosperity that received by Balinese people.
Beside its natural beauty, Ubud is also known as center if famous painters in Bali. Culture and nature have influenced the style and spirit of the paintings. Initially those artist were doing it for pleasure. Painting was a hobby. But now there are many people live from painting. Initially painter was a second profession but now day it has been a job for them.
Bali is also known as island of thousand temples which a true fact about the island. During your sightseeing period you will see those temples. The fact that there are many temples in the island is because every family in Bali has its own family temple. The family temple is not as large as village temple, more simple and located within the house yard.
